Lalela is a Zulu word meaning “to listen.” Lalela Project provides year-round, community-based arts education and leadership training to children grades one through twelve in a safe space during the vulnerable after-school hours and holiday periods.
On Saturday, 3 August 2013, Lalela Project held its annual fundraising event at the Hamptons home of its CEO, Andrea Kerzner, which was attended by 300 people.
The evening was planned by South African celebrity event planner, Colin Cowie, with entertainment by The All Stars Jazz Band and singers Yolanda Sangweni and Thuli Dumakude, South African cuisine by the Brooklyn-based Madiba Restaurant, and great moments with Lalela Project students who traveled from the Western Cape, South Africa, to share their inspiring stories with attendees. Consul General George Monyemangene and his wife, Louise Monyemangene, were the guests of honor at the event.
