About the Consul General
H.E. Thandile Babalwa Sunduza was born on the 15th of November 1977 in Soweto, Johannesburg, South Africa. She grew up as a Political Activist and served in different Youth and Student Structures fighting for the Liberation of South Africa under the banner of the African National Congress.
She matriculated in Johannesburg and subsequently obtained her National Diploma in Sports and in Sports Administration. She furthered her studies and acquired a Bachelor of Technology Degree in Sports Management. She is the recipient of several Certificates awarded by various institutions including Project Management. H.E. Sunduza commenced her working career in the National Olympic Committee of South Africa followed by the South African Table Tennis Board. In 2003, H.E. Sunduza began her government service and worked for different Departments in the Gauteng Provincial Government namely the Department of Health as a Field Research Expert, the Gauteng Youth Directorate as the Stakeholders Relations Officer and the Department of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture as a Senior Activity CoCoordinator.
In 2008 H.E. Sunduza was nominated by the African National Congress (ANC) to become a Member of the Parliament of South Africa serving in the National Assembly where she served from 2008 to 2014. She served in different Parliamentary Committees namely the Committee on International Relations, Finance and Appropriations Committee and the Joint Defence Committee. She served on Ad-Hoc Committees on Intelligence, Appointment of National Youth Director Agency and Appointment of Public Protector of South Africa. In 2010, H.E. Sunduza was appointed as The Chairperson of The Portfolio Committee on Arts and Culture and while there she served as an Advocate of Social Cohesion in South Africa. She continued her career by serving on various boards such as The National Rapid Response Team for the National Department of Housing, the Community Schemes Ombudsman Services. She worked in the Office of the Deputy Minister of Public Service and Administration as a Parliamentary Liaison Officer. HE Sunduza has also served her country in different International Platforms.
In 2020, she was appointed by the President of the Republic of South Africa as Consul-General of South Africa to United States to head the Mission in Los Angeles responsible for the thirteen states in the West Coast namely Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming and the US Territory of Guam.
H.E. Sunduza is a Philanthropist, she has one daughter and is a Christian.
