On Wednesday, 3 February 2021, Ambassador Mathu Joyini presented her credentials as the Permanent Representative of South Africa to the United Nations in New York to Mr António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations. Ambassador Joyini is the first woman to serve as South Africa's Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
United Nations Peacebuilding Commission
At a meeting of the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission, Ambassador Joyini underscored South Africa''s support for peacebuilding. She called for inclusive peacebuilding processes with active roles for women and youth.
United Nations Development Programme Executive Board
On 2 February 2021, Ambassador Mathu Joyini addressed the 1st regular session of the UNDP Executive Board for 2021. She appreciated UNDP's role in assisting countries with recovery from COVID-19. Vaccines should be global public goods available to all who need them.
