Nelson Mandela. He is also a son, a husband, a father and a grandfather.

The Rainbow Nation. South Africa is a culturally diverse country, one nation made up of many peoples. With 11 different official languages, a multiplicity of traditions and skin tones ranging from ebony to sunburnt pink, we are, as Archbishop Desmond Tutu once put it, the rainbow nation of Africa.

South Africa's Wildlife. Best known are the mammals, and best known of these are the famous Big Five: elephant, lion, rhino, leopard and buffalo.

South Africa's Birdlife. Of the 850 or so bird species recorded in South Africa, about 725 are resident or annual visitors, and about 50 are endemic or near-endemic

South Africa's Plant life. South Africa is home to some 10% of the world's flowering species, and is the only country in the world with an entire plant kingdom within its borders.

From the stark desert and spectacular sunsets of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park to the dense green coastal forests of Tsitsikamma, the rich wildlife heritage of the Kruger National Park - a territory larger than Israel - and ancient cultural heritage of Mapungubwe … take a virtual tour of South Africa's remarkable conservation areas.
